What it is
Loona DeskMate is KEYi’s $299 answer to a question 2026 decided to ask: what if the desk robot watched your meetings with you? Introduced at CES 2026, it docks beside your monitor, reads what’s on screen — calendar, Slack, the meeting you are pretending to attend — and reacts with Loona’s expressive eyes on silent brushless servos. Its April 2026 Kickstarter closed at $721,816 from 3,166 backers; units began shipping to backers July 7, 2026.
Observed behavior
Early backer reports describe the core loop: it notices your context and performs small commentary — perking up when a meeting starts, tracking your face as you talk, reacting to notifications. The screen-awareness is the novel organ here, and it is also the thing a privacy-minded household should examine hardest: a robot that reads your screen is a robot that reads your screen. KEYi has not announced an open SDK, and the integration list (Zoom, Slack, calendar) implies ongoing cloud service — our subscription row reads “unverified” until the shipping product settles, and we mean that flag.

The registry files this specimen as category-defining but young. The Kickstarter total proves the demand; what doesn’t exist yet is the month-three record — whether an embodied coworker stays delightful or becomes the desk equivalent of a chatty colleague. Buyers who need certainty should let the backer cohort generate the evidence this page will synthesize; buyers who enjoy being the backer cohort know who they are.
